This is beautiful. My guardian angels are awesome! They have watched me make some horrible mistakes and suffer the consequences and they have also protected me. I have not made their job easy but I am trying now to listen for them and I thank God for them always because as you note it is not our physical body they care for as much as it is our soul.
Jason, this has been a healing read for me. Thank you.
You have helped by giving a theological language and understanding that wonderfully counteracts the toxic ‘name it and claim it’ explanations for angels and prayer, along with the ‘reasons’ that prayer isn’t working (which were always so contorted as to render me speechless at times). I’ve never fully bought into this, but could also not get my head around why.
To become part of this bigger story in Jesus is such a beautiful vision and allows room for surrender to a life that at times we might not fully comprehend. It is enough to know that the one more beautiful and infinitely greater than anything we can imagine, has a story for each of us and has made us a part of His story. It reminds me of Tolkien’s mythology and his refrain of the ‘long defeat’. It’s never been about winning (the argument, the theology, the power) now, but about a slow death into this other, more beautiful story.
Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment. So helpful. You are the second person to mention Tolkien and the 'long defeat', I need to look at that some more.
This beautiful, Jason. As I get older, I find all kinds of memories coming to visit (and sometimes haunt) me. I'm going to engage with those memories in a new way now, looking for that arial perspective that you described. Thank you for this gift, my friend.

This is a beautiful piece of writing, Jason. You inspired me to remember my own story.
Thank you for reading and letting me know this.

Thank you. Can't put into words the help your article has given me, but it has truly helped.
Thank you, Karen. The end of your message is clipped; can you repost?
I edited it, it was just "truly helped"

Thank you. What version of the Ignation (sp?) are you using? This is so helpful.
Thanks for reading and your encouragement. I have the Louis Phul translation. Then, to take others through the exercises, I use Tetlow and O'Brien
Thanks so much
Yes, yes, and yes. Thank you for sharing your story and helping us see where Christ is present in ours.
Thanks Debbie.
😭 Beautiful Jason. I marvel in your ability to plumb the depths! So good!
Thank you for inspiring this reflection!
Our story should reflect His story ❤️
Amen
