For many tired Christians, Lent has become another self-improvement project: give something up, try harder, and do better by Easter. Most of us know how that usually ends.
I have come to see Lent differently, as a return. It is forty days of coming back to Christ and receiving from him the life we keep trying to build for ourselves. That conviction became this book.
The book
Re-membering: Returning to Christ, Receiving Your Life invites you to spend Lent in Jesus' company, following him through his life, his death, and his rising. Most days, you read a short passage from the Gospels and then step into the scene, as though you were standing there yourself. You notice what stirs in you, bring it to him in prayer, and find that, by the Spirit, he meets you there. Sundays are for going back: you return to whatever moved you most that week and stay with it a little longer.
I am grateful to Pete Greig, Margaret Silf, Amy Boucher Pye, Leonard Sweet and Andy Hickford, who have kindly commended it.
Equipping the Church, part of Kingsway, will publish it on Thursday 19 November.

Read it with me
From Ash Wednesday on 10 February to Easter Sunday on 28 March, I'll read the book alongside anyone who wants to join me. I will write a short note for Ash Wednesday and for each Sunday of Lent, to read with the book.
How to join
Just subscribe to SpEx. The Lent notes go to every subscriber, along with everything else I write here, so one free subscription gives you all of it. If you already subscribe, the notes will come to you.
For churches and groups
I am also preparing resources for churches and small groups, and they will appear on this page. If you lead a church or group, or know someone who does, please share this soon, since most churches choose their Lent books before Christmas.
Grateful,
//Jason
